Professional Meetings have been organized for 4 years within the framework of the FICME 2020, which is held in different towns on the island from July 13 to 18. These free sessions constitute a space destined to create synergies between different professionals within the Balearic audiovisual sector as well as on the national and international extents.
The first part will focus on the already traditional meeting of Balearic, national and international festivals, in order to establish networks, unite and find collaboration between them.
Considering that working together is key, a new web tool will be introduced in this first part of the conference. This tool could be proved to be essential for collaborative work among festivals, entities and private companies; it was created with the intention of collecting all the information regarding the Balearic festivals: calls, job offers, parallel activities, etc. A useful and practical device for both organizers, creators and other agents in the sector.
The second part will focus on distribution. On the one hand, it aims to offer professionals a space to share knowledge and establish the necessary contacts for the promotion and circulation of their projects, and on the other hand, to create a benchmark in the Balearic audiovisual industry in Menorca to promote Balearic cinema in all its formats.
We will analyze and present first-hand other distribution formulas in order to open and facilitate the channels that our industry requires. We cannot ignore the crisis we are experiencing worldwide caused by Covidien-19, because of it we will open a round table moderated by a successful professional who will explain us what paths will be followed from now on regarding film distribution.
Javier Pachón has a humanistic and cultural background, and is specialized in innovation, marketing and the implementation of technological advancements. He develops projects in the audiovisual and cultural field and co-founded and directed CineCiutat, a cinema managed by a non-profit association that he now chairs. He collaborates at an international level with numerous festivals and forums, most notably the European Commission’s DG Connect; as member of the Board of Directors of the International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas (CICAE); and with Europa Cinemas, under the umbrella of the Creative Europe MEDIA programme.
Miguel Salvat is since 2017 Commissioning Editor of Original Programming for HBO Europe in Spain, responsible for all HBO Europe own production projects commissioned in Spain. Salvat started his television career at WBZ-TV Boston, and returned to Spain to join Canal + as a producer and as part of the pay television launch team in 1990. After a period as CEO of Paramount Comedy Channel, he returned to Canal + as Content Director. In 2010 he was appointed Director of premium channels for Movistar.
Millán Vázquez has a BA degree in English Philology and a postgraduate degree in Audiovisual Distribution. He has been a founding member and CEO of Agencia Audiovisual Freak, SL (international distribution of independent cinema) since 2000, founding member and director of development of the portals Feelmakers.com (VoD) and Uptofest.com (online registration of films at festivals) since 2011, and founding member and head of acquisitions & sales at Feelsales, international sales agency specialized in documentaries, shorts, and animated films since 2015. In recent years, Millán Vázquez-Ortiz has been giving courses, seminars and conferences worldwide on the topic of distribution of short films and documentaries and marketing in the audiovisual sector. He’s taught in Spain, Finland, Italy, Canada and Cuba, where he has been a visiting professor at EICTV on several occasions. He’s also a producer of documentary short films and feature films.
Víctor Berlin has a BA Degree in Advertising and Public Relations and a PhD in Film Analysis (UCM). He’s a lecturer for various degrees at the Camilo José Cela University (UCJC) and the Francisco de Vitoria University (UFV). As a cultural manager, he works on a freelance basis for La Casa Encendida, Matadero, and other institutions. Since 2009 he has been in charge of the Kinora Association, dedicated to literacy, broadcasting and audiovisual research through the tutoring of film workshops, the programming of film cycles, and academic research. In April 2013, Kinora launched the PLAT.TV web portal, an online film archive specialized in new independent Spanish cinema, based on free access to more than 700 content items without the need for registration or subscription.
Ramiro Ledo, founding member of the NUMAX cooperative in 2014, is responsible for the Cinema NUMAX in Santiago de Compostela. Since 2019, he’s also a founding member of Nocturama SL, the company through which he directs NUMAX Distribución, and since October 2019, also the reopened DUPLEX Cinema in Ferrol.
This round table will be followed by one-to-one sessions of about 15 minutes each, framed in the comfortable atmosphere that the festival fosters. We will provide the opportunity to establish an individual, direct, fluid and profitable dialogue between producers, distributors, directors and creators.
