17 ag. FICME presents the “OFF Festival” in September with two cinema proposals
The month of September will bring back more cinema to Menorca with FICME’s OFF Festival, an event that will combine the Professional Conference from the Menorca International Film Festival’s fifth edition, and the established film and gastronomy season, CookingFilms. Three days in which the island will host representatives of the Balearic, national and international film sectors, as well as renowned local and national chefs and the best local produce to bring together cinema and culinary culture.
The FICME 2020 Professional Conference
The Professional Conference are held as part of the fifth edition of the Menorca International Film Festival. A space that aims to create synergies between different professionals in the audio-visual sector from the Balearic Islands, as well as nationally and internationally, for a fifth consecutive year.
It will take place on September 11th, and will feature a gathering of film festivals and a meeting for the film distribution sector. The gathering of festivals will this year have a primarily Balearic approach, and will aim to establish collaboration networks between the islands’ various film festivals and film exhibitions but also with the rest of the country and internationally. The meeting, open to everyone interested, will seek to address issues related to the coordination and representation of the various cinema and film industry proposals in the Balearic Islands.
The meeting between distributors and filmmakers will take place on the afternoon of that same day. It will offer professionals a space to share knowledge and establish contacts for their projects, and also to promote Balearic cinema within the audiovisual industry in the context of Covid -19 and how it’s currently affecting the culture sector.
The CookingFilms Festival is back
Cinema and gastronomy go hand in hand again in Menorca with CookingFilms Festival, the program with which the International Film Festival has been promoting for four years the island’s gastronomic culture, local produce and producers as a fundamental part of Menorca’s culture.
The goal of this year’s event is to support the announcement of Menorca as European Gastronomic Region 2022 for the excellence and variety of the island’s produce and cuisine and to promote Menorca as a gastronomic tourist destination. The event is supported by the Department of Economy and Territory within the Insular Council of Menorca, collaborating ministry, and the Foundation Foment de Turisme de Menorca, sponsoring entity of CookingFilms 2020.
Three days of workshops, talks, samplings and the already traditional sessions of Cinema&Cine, in which the public will be able to visit three prestigious restaurants on the island to sample tailor-made menus designed in accordance with the screening of a gastronomic film. CookingFilms will once again see renowned chefs from Menorca and the national scene attending, as well as personalities from the world of gastronomy such as Ada Parellada and Pere Monje for workshops and masterclasses.
