The Menorca International Film Festival (FICME) is the the seventh art annual event on the island. Now, in its fifth edition, and with sustainability as its banner, we are aware of the positive effect that cinema can have on social consciousness. We focus the FICME towards reflection through films to make Menorca and the world a better place to live.
For this reason, we have set ourselves the goal of achieving the maximum Sustainable Development Goals. A United Nations initiative called Agenda 2030 to improve our world in cross-cutting issues.
The Festival has two contest sections:
Competició de curtmetratges nacionals i internacionals.
Competició de curtmetratges balears.
The basic requirements are :
The works are completely free. But those of social or environmental nature will be positively evaluated, following the line of sustainability launched last year. And this year it is strengthened by the commitment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals .
The short films will be screened with a double subtitle: Spanish and English .
Each year, recognized professionals in the audiovisual sector join the team to make up the jury. They choose the winners of each edition and make an objective assessment of their decision.
Javier Pachón has a humanistic and cultural background, and is specialized in innovation, marketing and the implementation of technological advancements. He develops projects in the audiovisual and cultural field and co-founded and directed CineCiutat, a cinema managed by a non-profit association that he now chairs. He collaborates at an international level with numerous festivals and forums, most notably the European Commission’s DG Connect; as member of the Board of Directors of the International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas (CICAE); and with Europa Cinemas, under the umbrella of the Creative Europe MEDIA programme.
Carlos R. Ríos has a degree in Information Sciences at the UAB, and a postdegree in Cultural Management. In 1994 he was co-founder and promoter of the 100,000 Retinas film broadcasting company, an entity dedicated to promoting cinema as a culture. He has been a promoter and coordinator of the Cine Ambigú cycle, a weekly film space that offered the best international cinema without distribution in our country. He was more than 10 years co-director of the Asian Film Festival of Barcelona – BAFF, and since 2010 director of Noucinemart (film broadcaster and distributor) and of the D’A Film Festival Barcelona.
The Spanish-Swedish actress has participated in more than 20 films, numerous theater plays and television series. In 2015 she was nominated to Premios Goya as Best Newcomer Actress for her performance in Jaime Rosales’ “Hermosa Juventud”, and has worked on projects such as “Taxi to Gibraltar” by Alejo Flash, “Love me Not“ by Luis Miñarro , “Toro” by Kike Maíllo, “Gernika” by Koldo Serra, “Berserker” by Pablo Hernando, “El Arte de Volver” by Pedro Collantes and in the Movistar+ television serie “Instinto”. He is currently rehearsing “Mujercitas” for the Teatro Español.

FICME is an island event. For this reason, with each edition we try to expand the range of spaces and municipalities that host both the Festival and actions Menorca 365.
Ser presents a tota l’illa permet a menorquins i visitants conèixer espais únics i emblemàtics, sempre posant en valor les localitzacions a l’aire lliure que brinda Menorca. Les vols conèixer un poc més a fons?
The outdoor spaces are intended to publicize the landscape beauty of Menorca. Every corner of the island is special. And those who are eligible for the Festival’s screenings, it opens to the public from two aspects: the cinematic and the tourist.
This is why we select the best public spaces and turn them into outdoor cinemas for a week. And expand an experience that encompasses other attractions of the island, such as being a Starlight reservation, enjoying the Mediterranean or living on the Menorcan summer night .
The main outdoor spaces of the Menorca International Film Festival – Social & Sustainable are:
Closing Gala venue for the fourth edition of the Festival. This small island, located inside the port of Mahon, offers an unmatched perspective on the mouth of the port and the easternmost coast.
Heart of the old city and a must-see to discover the most characteristic architectural element of the west of the island.

Press releases:
Silence, we are screening.
Had we been told in 2016 that a short film festival would become one of the island references in the summer , we would have been hard-pressed to believe. Menorca International Film Festival – Social & Sustainable may seem small in format, but large in goal . Remove the viewers’ consciousness , with risky proposals , which speak transparently about social, environmental, human conflicts . We open windows to topics that should make us aware of the world we live in and how we interact with it.
In addition to entertaining, cinema is a means of understanding the reality that surrounds us .
For this, we make the International Film Festival of Menorca – Social & Sustainable a space that goes beyond the screening of committed films and shorts. It is also a meeting place for young creators , a hub for professionals who want to improve the practices of the sector such as industry, set and filming . For those companies, associations and entities that, through culture, want to put their bit of sand to make a better Menorca .

These are the SDGs we have complied with since the Festival:
