16 Jan Menorca 365
This year 2018 the Menorca Film Festival will be celebrating its third edition. Perhaps it will be the most special edition, which will give a boost to this competiton which we all love and support, and which you all do as well. The Festival has become a very strong cultural event in the Baleares and we are now working hard for it to continue to grow without losing a single bit of its own personality. The first example of this is the extensive calendar of activities programmed throughout the whole year.
In January we start off with the Cycle of Women in Film, screening the US film “Amerrika” based on inmigration. We continue during February and March with the projection of “El último verano de Boyita”, an Argentinian film dealing with sexual identity, and “The salt of the earth” an American film about sexual equality.
The 5th and 6th of March we will host Som Festivals (We Are Festivals), a meeting of five different Film Festivals, with the aim of creating synergies and co-operations.
We will also have the Audiovisual Imagesport Competition, aiming to pass on fundamental sport values especially amongst students.
We’ll start off April with the Fam Trip, where we will meet with international audiovisual producers in order to encourage them to consider shooting in Menorca and we will be showing them the best locations on the island.
In April and coinciding with the 25th Anniversary of Menorca being chosen as an Offical World Biosphere Reserve, our Festival will organize a celebratory and educational day of activities based on Bioecological subjects.
During April and May we are organizing “Cooking Films”, a project linking gastronomy and film by means of a series of thematic evenings where you can enjoy both passions.
And we must not forget our most important week of the year – from the 16th until the 22nd of July we will be enjoying our own Festival, screening more than xx short films and XX feature length films in various emblematic spaces all over Menorca. The island becomes an open air cinema.
